Westell DSL Modem Setup with Static IP
To configure the Westell so it has a Static IP address, please follow these instructions.
NOTE: Some versions of the Westell require that
the DSL phone line be plugged into the modem before you can proceed
with making changes.
- Connect a computer directly to the modem
- Reset the modem by holding the reset button (next to the ethernet
port) until the DSL light starts flashing
- Open a web browser and go to this address http://192.168.1.1
- Login with the following:
- User ID: admin
- Password: password
- Change the Administration Name and Password
- Click OK when prompted for confirmation
- Click next
- Enter the current User ID and Password from step 4
- Click next (Make no entries in the Account ID or Account Password boxes)
- Click next (0/35 is default, this doesn't get changed)
- Confirm that protocol is set to Bridge, click next
- Click done
- Click Configuration
- Click VC configuration
- Click the first edit button from the top
- Under VC 1 - Bridge Settings, set Mode to Routed Bridge
- Set DHCP to 'disabled'
- Add Static IP, Netmask and Gateway into the next set of fields
- Primary DNS: 216.18.130.1, Secondary DNS: 216.18.130.4
- Click 'set VC'
- Click OK when prompted to Set this Bridge VC configuration
- When asked if you would like the modem to be reset now, click
OK
- The screen will indicate that the modem is reseting and will
reload
- The Westell should now act as modem and router. It will have the static IP assigned to the WAN and will be giving out DHCP addresses to the computers behind it.
