Westell DSL Modem Standard Setup

To configure the Westell so it does regular Network Address Translation/DHCP, please follow these instructions.

NOTE: Some versions of the Westell require that the DSL phone line be plugged into the modem before you can proceed with making changes.

1. Connect a computer directly to the modem
2. Reset the modem by holding the reset button (next to the ethernet port) until the DSL light starts flashing
3. Open a web browser and go to this address http://192.168.1.1
4. Login with the following:
   - User ID: admin
   - Password: password

   

5. Change the Administration Name and Password

   

6. Click OK when prompted for confirmation
7. Click next

   

8. Enter the current User ID and Password from step 4

   

9. Click next (Make no entries in the Account ID or Account Password boxes)

   

10. Click next (0/35 is default, this doesn't get changed)

    

11. Confirm that protocol is set to Bridge, click next

    

12. Click done

    

13. Click Configuration

    

14. Click VC configuration

    

15. Click the first edit button from the top

    

16. Under VC 1 - Bridge Settings, set Mode to Routed Bridge
17. Set DHCP to 'enabled', then click 'set VC'

    

18. Click OK when prompted to Set this Bridge VC configuration
19. When asked if you would like the modem to be reset now, click OK
20. The screen will indicate that the modem is reseting and will reload

    

21. The Westell should now act as modem and router
22. Click on 'Status' at the top, go to 'About'
23. Record the MAC address of the modem and enter it into the MAC table for the user in the FIRE Database
24. Update of MAC address will take up to 2 hours but the user should then be online and working(if it's between 8am - 5pm you can ask Jim or AJ to force an update to make it immediate via MSN)
25. You may need to reboot or release and renew your DHCP lease
