Westell DSL Modem Setup - Bridge Mode
This walkthrough will allow you to setup a Westell modem to straight bridge mode for people with routers behind them.
NOTE: Some versions of the Westell require that
the DSL phone line be plugged into the modem before you can proceed
with making changes.
- Connect a computer directly to the modem.
- Computer should be setup to obtain an IP address automatically.
- Reset the modem by holding the reset button (next to the ethernet
port) until the DSL light starts flashing
- Open a web browser and go to this address http://192.168.1.1
- Login with the following:
- User ID: admin
- Password: password
- Change the Administration Name and Password
- Click OK when prompted for confirmation
- Click next
- Enter the current User ID and Password from step 4
- Click next (Make no entries in the Account ID or Account Password boxes)
- Click next (0/35 is default, this doesn't get changed)
- Confirm that protocol is set to Bridge, click next
- Click done
- Click Configuration
- Click VC configuration
- Click the first edit button from the top
- Under VC 1 - Bridge Settings, set Mode from Routed Bridge to
Bridge
- Set DHCP client to 'Disable' then click 'set VC'
- Click OK when prompted to Set this Bridge VC configuration
- When asked if you would like the modem to be reset now, click
OK
- The screen will indicate that the modem is reseting and will
reload
- Click Configuration, then click DHCP Configuration
- Set DHCP Server to "Off"
- Click Save
- Click OK when asked to save and reconfigure DHCP
- The Westell should now act as if it were just a transparent modem.
- You will probably need to reboot at this point.
