Once you have connected,
you will see that WS_FTP has divided into two frames. The left hand frame
is a directory map of your "local" computer (the one you are sitting at
right now). WS_FTP calls this your Local System. The right hand
frame is a directory map of your IMBRIS virtual server. WS_FTP calls
this your Remote System. In this right hand frame you will see the
name
of the directory you are in. It should read "/home/USERNAME".
-
Moving to the default
directory:
-
Click on the folder marked
"public_html" if you are publishing html or graphic files. This will
bring
you
to the "/home/USERNAME/public_html"
directory. This is where you will publish your web site.
Note: Your main page
must be named "index.html".
-
Transferring files over
Now you are ready to begin
moving your files onto your server. There are two methods of file
transfer:
-
ASCII - Used with text based
files (.html, .htm, .txt, .pl, etc.).
-
Binary - For binary based files
(.jpg, .gif, .exe, .doc, .avi, etc).
If you are moving over an
entire folder of information, instead of one file at a time, then you can
select
the AUTO check box.
|
| When you first log on to
Cute FTP, you will find yourself in the "FTP site manager". In order to
connect to your server, you must create a site login file.

Now that you are inside
your server, you will be brought to the default upload
directory.
-
Moving around the
directories
The FTP program works much
like looking through the files in your computer. The green arrow is used
to go back one directory.
-
Change directory - Located as the fifth icon from the right
side of the action bar. This function is used when you wish to move
directly to a specific directory,
i.e.
/home/USERNAME/public_html/images.
-
Transferring
files
Once you are connected,
you will be ready to move the files from your computer to your
server.
Please remember what "Transfer type" you selected, and only upload the
files of the appropriate group.

you wish to publish by using either the 'Browse Files' or 'Browse Folders'
button
-
If this is the first time you
have published to your server then click on the 'New' button, if you have
previously used WPW to publish to server then select the server
description from the list.
-
If you have previously
published to your server using the WPW then please jump to the final step
below.
-
Enter a descriptive name for
it and then click on the 'Advanced' button.
-
From the 'Connection Method'
list select 'FTP'
-
When prompted for the 'URL or
Internet Address' enter it in the following format:
-
ftp://DOMAIN//domain/USERNAME/public_html
-
The 'Local Directory' should
be set correctly.
-
You may now be be asked for
your ftp hostname and your remote directory, both of these should be set
correctly. I would suggest that you check them though, they should be in
the format of:
-
Host - DOMAIN
-
Directory - /domain/USERNAME/public_html
Click on the 'Finish' button,
you will then be prompted for you username and password, this is included
in your 'Welcome' email. If you have previously published to your server
