To
get the fast, secure, reliable access to the Internet you want, there
are a few things you'll need, other than a personal computer.
- At
least one phone jack inside your home will need to be wired. DSL "filters" may be needed, depending on the voice phone lines used.
- You'll
need to have a NIC (Network Interface Card) installed in your computer
and configured (this is not included in the installation fee). When
you purchase the card, you have several installation options:
(1) Install it yourself.
(2) Take your computer to a local computer store to have the card installed.
(3) Request this service from IMBRIS at an additional fee.
- Your
computer software will need to be reconfigured to support DSL. If you
choose option 3 above, this same technician will also configure your
computer for accessing DSL service.
- You'll
also need a DSL modem. You can purchase this modem yourself or through Imbris. Please ask
your IMBRIS Sales Representative for additional information on these
options.

The
DSL end-user must be located within three cable miles of a DSL-equipped
serving office in order for DSL to operate effectively. This distance
will vary depending on the specific type and condition of the telephone
line.
DSL
provides an "always on" connection to one content provider (ISP, company
LAN, or remote database). For those who need the ability to access multiple
Internet service providers (ISPs) in a "dial-up" scenario, DSL may not
be the best fit as it is a dedicated connection. Some of our DSL packages include a supplemental national dial-up
account with your DSL connection as part of the package.
Because DSL services is an "always on" connection, having your computer operating system up-to-date with all security
patches is critical. Likewise, you should plan on running up-to-date anti-virus and firewall software.

Services
that are compatible with DSL operation include: Direct Data Services (56/64
Kbps) and Standard Analog Telephone services.
High-speed
Internet access, remote LAN access, File Transfer and e-mail applications
work well with DSL.
Some
types of two-way videoconferencing and other sustainable high-bandwidth
transfers aren't compatible with the lower speed DSL services because the flow of data from these
applications is packet-based. Please ask your Imbris Sales Representative for assistance on choosing the best DSL package depending on your needs.
Unfortunately,
DSL won't work with ISDN because DSL is designed to work with voice grade
circuits over copper cable facilities.
DSL
service will work with any Operating System that supports Ethernet Networking,
including any operating systems listed. Please see your Operating System
instructions or consult the manufacturer of the Operating System for details.
