______________________________________________
Once you have connected, you will see that WS_FTP has divided into two frames. The left hand frame is a directory map of your "local" computer (the one you are sitting at right now). WS_FTP calls this your Local System. The right hand frame is a directory map of your IMBRIS virtual server. WS_FTP calls this your Remote System. In this right hand frame you will see the name of the directory you are in. It should read "/domain/USERNAME".
  • Moving to the default directory:
    • Click on the folder marked "HTML" if you are publishing html or graphic files.  This will bring you to the "/domain/USERNAME/public_html" directory. This is where you will publish your web site.
Note: Your main page must be named "index.html".

  •  Transferring files over

  • Now you are ready to begin moving your files onto your server. There are two methods of file transfer:
    • ASCII - Used with text based files (.html, .htm, .txt, .pl, etc.).
    • Binary - For binary based files (.jpg, .gif, .exe, .doc, .avi, etc).
If you are moving over an entire folder of information, instead of one file at a time, then you can select the AUTO check box.

    • Type: cd /domain/ USERNAME/public_html
    • Press: Enter.
Once you are in a telnet session, you will need to know some basic commands for moving around and affecting the information.
Moving around in telnet? Here are some simple commands to help you.
    • You can view all the files and directories in your current directory by typing "ls". All files will have extensions (index.html, person.jpg, fun.avi) and all directories will have no extension (images, business, misc).
    • "cd" Means change directory.
      • If you know the proper directory that you wish to be in, use this command with the directories path.

      • Example: "cd /domain/USERNAME /public_html/images"  (assuming that it exists, this will bring you to your images directory).  It is important to remember the space between the "cd" and the directory path.
      • If you would like to just move into an adjacent directory:

      • Type: "cd" then the name of the directory.
      • To move one directory down:

      • Type: "cd .." (yes, those are two periods)
    ______________________________________________
When you are finished with your telnet session, it is important to exit the program properly. When you are in a directory and not in a file:
    • Type: exit.
    • Press: Return.
