What is the procedure for registering a new domain name?

Upon submitting a new domain name request with us, we will automatically submit the necessary information to register your chosen domain name. The information sent on the template is pulled directly from the order form. The registrar typically completes the registration within 24 hours, and propagation typically takes about 72 hours. Non-U.S. domain names must be registered by the end-user.

How can I transfer an existing domain name?

Imbris provides a simple way for you to transfer your site and all your email without suffering unwanted downtime! We automatically provide an IP address for all domain accounts. This means is that your domain is active on our servers with your assigned IP address before you transfer your domain. During this time you can upload and configure your entire web site as well as any related email addresses. When it comes time to transfer your domain the transition will be seamless and visitors to your site will never notice the difference.

Whether you place an order by telephone or via our online order form, be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep your domain hosting service at the present site while waiting for the domain registrar(s) to make the necessary modifications to your domain record.

All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called propagation. Propagation is usually completed in about 72 hours, during which time visitors could get tranferred to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact the previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site using your domain name, until they update their DNS, however you can access your site by entering the IP address we assigned.

Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the WWW?

Yes, you will be able to access the domain name with or without the WWW in front. For example, you could access your site by going to "www.your-domain.com" as well as "your-domain.com".

What is a NIC handle?

Every entity registered with InterNIC has a NIC handle. You can use the same NIC handle as contacts for several domains. This way, if you make a change to the NIC handle (i.e., the e-mail address), all domains using that NIC handle will be updated as well.

What are some common domain name registration problems I’m likely to encounter?

The most common problems experienced with domain name registrations stem from outdated or invalid contact information. It’s important to keep the information for the contacts, especially the e-mail address, up-to-date. If a modification to the domain is needed and the e-mail address for the administrative contact is no longer valid, they will not receive the acknowledgment request, and the modification will take considerably longer.

Can I register a non-US domain name?

IMBRIS can host domain names other than .com, .net, or .org, but the you, the customer, will be responsible to register their domain name with the proper local authority within your country.

Here are the steps for activating a non-US domain:

1. Check with the agency in your country who manages domain names to obtain their registration procedures. You also need to get the proper form or template that is required for the registration.
2. Complete the necessary information on your domain form or template and use the following information as requested:

   Secondary Nameserver IP Address	216.18.130.1	Secondary Nameserver Host Name	storm.imbris.com

3. Submit your request for a non-us IMBRIS domain account via our online form and use your domain name (ie. your_name.de or your_name.es ).
4. Once your account activated, IMBRIS will e-mail you a notice that will include an IP address and other information that will assist you in setting up your web site.
